Would you like to qualify for reduced electricity rates for your home? Many North Carolina utilities, such as Duke Power and Progress Energy, offer discounted rates (ranging from 5 to 15%) for homes certified as ENERGY STAR®. Under this joint U.S. EPA/DOE program, homes qualified as ENERGY STAR are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to existing building codes and standards. Thus, homeowners save in two ways:
Learn more about ENERGY STAR qualified homes and buildings at: www.energystar.gov. HPB is a proud partner with ENERGY STAR, providing independent testing and inspection services that allow homes to earn the ENERGY STAR certification. HPB professionals advise builders and homeowners how to select the most energy-efficient features for a home; inspect and test the home; and then verify that the home meets EPA’s strict guidelines for energy efficiency.
Even for homes and buildings that do not qualify for ENERGY STAR designation, HPB professionals can identify energy-saving opportunities through energy audits and modeling. For many homes, leaks in walls, ceilings, floors, doors, and windows allow outside air to enter or conditioned air to exit the living areas. Moreover, leaks in HVAC ducting can result in the loss of conditioned air to unconditioned spaces, such as attics and crawl spaces. HPB maintains sophisticated testing equipment to measure and identify such leaks so they can be repaired. HPB’s computer models and databases allow us to identify and rank the most cost-effective opportunities to reduce energy usage, including insulation, windows, doors, HVAC equipment, and roofing systems. At the same time, we ensure that occupant comfort and indoor air quality will be maintained or improved. |
In addition to reduced energy usage, reduced pollution, and reduced electricity rates, tax credits are now available to builders and home owners for ENERGY STAR qualified homes and equipment upgrades.
